Little Rock, AR – As drought conditions worsen in central and western Arkansas, residents in Little Rock are also under a frost advisory tonight, with temperatures expected to drop to near 36 degrees. The National Weather Service warns that these conditions could further strain already dry soil, impacting agriculture and local vegetation.
The frost advisory is in effect from 1 a.m. to 8 a.m. Thursday, affecting a wide area across Arkansas, including Little Rock. Sensitive plants and crops may be damaged by the cold, and residents are urged to cover plants or bring them indoors to prevent frost damage. This advisory follows ongoing drought concerns, as soil moisture levels have reached critically low levels, particularly around Little Rock, where conditions have been exacerbated by lack of rainfall.
Dry air and high temperatures have depleted soil moisture across Arkansas, as shown in recent reports from the National Weather Service. While other parts of the Southeast have received heavy rain from hurricanes, Arkansas remains dry, with minimal relief in sight. The prolonged drought has placed additional stress on local agriculture, and fire risks remain elevated due to dry conditions.
Residents should also be aware that conditions remain ripe for wildfires, particularly in areas where soil moisture levels are lowest. Little Rock authorities recommend avoiding outdoor burning and keeping an eye on weather updates as dry weather continues.
