Phoenix, AZ – An Excessive Heat Warning is in effect for portions of south-central Arizona, including the CO River and Imperial Valley, with temperatures expected to reach dangerous levels this week. The warning, issued by the National Weather Service, began at 10 a.m. MST on Monday and will continue through Tuesday evening.
According to the National Weather Service, the heat wave is expected to bring daytime highs ranging from 107°F to 114°F on Monday and Tuesday, with nighttime lows remaining uncomfortably warm between 81°F and 92°F. The highest temperatures are forecast for Tuesday when Phoenix could see a high of 110°F. The heat will slightly taper off midweek, but highs will still hover around 100°F through Saturday.
Residents are urged to take precautions during this period of extreme heat. Staying hydrated is crucial, with experts recommending at least 2 liters of water per day. It’s advised to avoid outdoor activities during peak heat hours from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. If air conditioning is not accessible, Arizona 211 provides free transportation to cooling centers open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
The warning serves as a critical reminder of the dangers posed by excessive heat, which can lead to serious health issues without proper precautions.
