Flagstaff, AZ – A late-season winter storm is set to blanket northern Arizona with snow through Saturday evening, prompting the National Weather Service to issue Winter Weather Advisories across multiple high-elevation regions.
According to the National Weather Service in Flagstaff, snow will begin falling Friday and continue through 5 p.m. MST Saturday. The White Mountains, including Show Low, Pinetop-Lakeside, and Greer, are expected to receive 1 to 4 inches of snow, with up to 8 inches possible above 8,000 feet. In the Chuska Mountains and Defiance Plateau, totals could reach 10 inches in areas like Buffalo Pass, with 2 to 4 inches forecast for Window Rock and Ganado.
The Kaibab Plateau, including Jacob Lake and Fredonia, is already under advisory, with snowfall continuing through 5 p.m. Friday. Totals there may range from 1 to 7 inches, particularly above 7,000 feet.
Roads, bridges, and overpasses may become slick and dangerous, especially during peak commuting hours Friday. Arizona Department of Transportation urges drivers to check conditions at az511.gov or call 511 before traveling.
Travelers should reduce speed, allow extra time, and be prepared for winter conditions. Snow-covered roads and reduced visibility are likely, especially at higher elevations.
