Phoenix, AZ – Thunderstorm chances remain high across Arizona today, with the heaviest activity expected along the Mogollon Rim. Showers and storms will spread as far west as Joshua Tree National Park, affecting areas of La Paz and Riverside Counties.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Phoenix, isolated thunderstorms are forming this morning in NW Maricopa and parts of La Paz Counties. The main storm activity will develop over higher terrain areas throughout the day. These storms could bring heavy rainfall and gusty winds, with wind speeds exceeding 35 mph in some locations.

Residents along the lower Colorado River Valley should also prepare for possible blowing dust due to strong winds. The NWS has issued warnings for strong outflow winds, which may cause hazardous driving conditions and property damage.

The chance for gusts of 35 mph or higher is between 10-30% for South-Central Arizona and 30-50% for La Paz and Riverside Counties. Additionally, the storms could produce deadly lightning, posing an extra risk to outdoor activities.
