Flagstaff, AZ – Arizona is experiencing an intense stretch of heat, with several cities potentially breaking temperature records over the next few days. According to the National Weather Service in Flagstaff, a high-pressure ridge is pushing temperatures up to near-record levels before cooler air arrives on Sunday.
Today and tomorrow will see highs close to or exceeding previous records in cities such as Camp Verde, Payson, and Phantom Ranch. In Camp Verde, temperatures could reach 94°F, just shy of the 92°F record, while Flagstaff might tie its current high of 75°F. The intense heat is expected to peak on Saturday, with Phantom Ranch forecasted to reach 98°F, near the 99°F record.
Residents are advised to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity during peak heat, and take precautions against heat-related illnesses. The temperature drop expected by Sunday should provide some relief as the high-pressure system moves eastward.
Local authorities are monitoring the situation, with cooling centers available in many cities. Stay tuned for updates as the weekend progresses and the cooler air arrives.
