Phoenix, AZ — Unseasonably hot temperatures and stagnant air are triggering a spring weather alert across Phoenix and Maricopa County through Saturday night.

Residents are urged to take precautions as the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality has extended an Ozone High Pollution Advisory through Friday, and temperatures will hover around 100°F again on Saturday, according to the National Weather Service Phoenix office. Prolonged exposure to the heat and air quality conditions could pose health risks, particularly for sensitive groups such as children, older adults, and individuals with respiratory illnesses.

Health officials advise limiting outdoor activity and avoiding the use of gasoline-powered equipment during peak hours. Telecommuting and carpooling are also encouraged to help reduce emissions. Those with pre-existing conditions should stay indoors and monitor symptoms if exposed to poor air quality.

Saturday’s weather will remain sunny and hot, with calm winds becoming southwest at 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon. Saturday night will cool to a low near 69°F with partly cloudy skies. Sunday’s high drops slightly to 93°F under mostly sunny skies.

Looking ahead, Monday and Tuesday continue the sunny trend with highs near 95°F and 93°F respectively. Lows will remain in the upper 60s, with calm overnight conditions.
