Denver, CO – High winds, dry air, and unseasonably warm temperatures will create dangerous fire weather conditions across northeast Colorado on Saturday.
The National Weather Service has issued a Fire Weather Watch for Larimer, Boulder, and Douglas counties, as well as the Denver metro and Morgan County. According to the NWS, the alert begins Saturday at 12:00 p.m. MDT and remains in effect until 8:00 p.m. Sustained west winds of 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph combined with relative humidity as low as 9 percent are expected to increase the risk of fast-moving wildfires.
Residents should avoid any outdoor burning and activities that could spark a fire, especially near dry brush or open grasslands. Conditions are most dangerous along the I-25 corridor, where wind funnels through foothill canyons.
Saturday’s high will reach 86°F under mostly sunny skies. Winds will strengthen throughout the afternoon. By evening, skies become partly cloudy as breezy conditions persist.
Looking ahead:
- Sunday brings a 40% chance of afternoon showers, with a high of 68°F.
- Sunday night sees a higher chance (60%) for rain, changing to snow.
- Monday will be partly sunny, with a slight chance of rain or snow and a high near 58°F.
- Tuesday turns sunny and mild, with highs near 76°F.
- Wednesday and Thursday show a return of light rain chances, with daytime highs in the upper 70s.
