Phoenix, Arizona – Freeze Watches remain in effect across large portions of central and eastern Arizona, with sub-freezing temperatures possible late this week into the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Phoenix, the first Freeze Watch is in effect from late tonight through Friday morning, with temperatures in the lower 30s possible across the Aguila Valley, Globe/Miami, San Carlos, Superior, and Tonto Basin.

A second Freeze Watch is in effect from late Friday night through Saturday morning, when colder air is expected to deepen across the region. During this period, temperatures in the upper 20s are possible in parts of the Aguila Valley, Globe/Miami, San Carlos, Superior, and Tonto Basin, with upper 20s to lower 30s forecast for Central La Paz County, Southeast Valley/Queen Creek, Northwest and West Pinal County, and Dripping Springs.

These temperatures pose a threat to crops, sensitive vegetation, and unprotected outdoor plumbing. Rural valleys and low-lying areas are especially vulnerable to overnight radiational cooling.

Residents are urged to take precautions now by protecting tender plants, wrapping or draining exposed pipes, and allowing faucets to drip slowly where freezing is possible.

The National Weather Service advises monitoring forecast updates in case Freeze Watches are upgraded to Freeze Warnings as confidence increases.
