Calgary, AB – Light snow and biting wind chills are sweeping across Calgary Saturday, marking the start of a chilly weekend across southern Alberta.
According to Environment Canada, periods of snow will continue through Saturday, with local accumulations between 2 to 4 centimeters expected. Temperatures will remain near -1°C, but wind chill values will make it feel as cold as -11°C during the morning and -5°C by the afternoon.
Winds from the east-southeast at 10 to 15 km/h will maintain reduced visibility throughout the day, with only 3 kilometers of visibility reported early Saturday morning. Calgary residents should expect slick road conditions and plan accordingly for slower commutes and potential delays.
Snow is forecast to taper off by evening, transitioning to mostly cloudy skies with a 30 percent chance of flurries overnight. The temperature will drop to a low of -6°C overnight, continuing the streak of unseasonably cold spring weather.
Elsewhere in Alberta, conditions remain stable but cold. Areas south and west of Calgary may see similar snowfall amounts, while Edmonton remains clear but chilly.
Residents are advised to dress in layers, avoid unnecessary travel during snowy periods, and stay informed through Environment Canada’s alerts and updates.
