Albany, NY – A significant rainfall event soaked portions of eastern New York over the past two days, with some areas recording more than 3 inches of rain, impacting local communities and waterways.

According to the US National Weather Service Albany, the heaviest rainfall totals were observed between May 8 and May 10. The National Weather Service map, created Friday afternoon, shows widespread precipitation across the region, with the highest totals concentrated in the southeastern areas.

Poughkeepsie recorded some of the highest rainfall at 3.15 inches, while nearby Beacon saw 3.22 inches. Kingston also experienced heavy precipitation, measuring 2.91 inches. Meanwhile, Albany recorded between 2.21 and 2.43 inches, and Schenectady received around 2.13 inches. In contrast, areas to the northwest, including Gloversville and parts of the Adirondacks, saw significantly less rainfall, generally under 1 inch.

The data, gathered through the Cooperative Observer Program (CoCoRaHS) and local weather spotters, highlights the critical role of community participation in weather monitoring. The National Weather Service encourages residents interested in contributing to rainfall reporting to join CoCoRaHS at www.cocorahs.org.
