Oakland, CA – A late-night DUI checkpoint in Oakland led to the arrest of a teenage driver after officers allegedly discovered an unregistered firearm and illegal drugs during a vehicle search Friday night.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the checkpoint was conducted at approximately 11:37 p.m. on Friday, April 24, 2026, on Telegraph Avenue in Alameda County. During the operation, a 17-year-old driver entered the checkpoint but reportedly had no identification, vehicle registration, or proof of insurance.

CHP officials said the situation escalated after officers directed the vehicle to a secondary inspection area. During further investigation, the driver was allegedly found to be unlicensed and accused of providing false information to law enforcement.

Authorities stated the driver was taken into custody at the scene, and the vehicle was subsequently towed. While conducting an inventory search of the vehicle, officers reportedly located an unregistered firearm along with illegal drugs.

Officials have not released the identity of the suspect due to age, and no additional details about the type or quantity of drugs have been confirmed.

The checkpoint was part of ongoing enforcement efforts aimed at reducing impaired driving and improving roadway safety across Alameda County and the greater Oakland area.

CHP emphasized that DUI checkpoints are conducted regularly to deter unsafe driving behaviors and ensure compliance with licensing and vehicle regulations.

No injuries were reported in connection with the incident. The investigation remains ongoing.
