Gainesville, FL – Two convicted felons were arrested Thursday evening after a routine traffic stop in southwest Gainesville led deputies to fentanyl, marijuana, MDMA, and a firearm, according to the Alachua County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the sheriff’s office, the stop occurred Thursday night, December 18, at the intersection of Southwest 17th Road and Southwest 67th Street. A FOCUS Unit deputy pulled over a silver GMC for a traffic infraction and made contact with the driver, 22-year-old Michael Harrison Jr., and passenger, 23-year-old Peyton Anderson.

Deputies reported observing multiple nervous indicators while speaking with Harrison. A strong odor of marijuana was also detected coming from inside the vehicle, prompting deputies to call for a K-9 unit. The narcotics-trained K-9 alerted to the presence of illegal drugs, giving deputies probable cause to search the vehicle, authorities said.

During the search, deputies allegedly discovered a Glock handgun with an inserted magazine, a digital scale, numerous baggies of marijuana totaling more than 51 grams, and an over 11-gram bag containing fentanyl and MDMA. Deputies also located four ecstasy pills and additional small quantities of loose marijuana.

Both men are convicted felons, according to authorities. Harrison was on felony probation for withholding adjudication for burglary of an occupied dwelling out of Alachua County. Anderson previously served prison time in Taylor County for battery on a law enforcement officer and was also on felony probation.

Harrison was charged with trafficking in fentanyl, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony, maintaining a structure for knowing drug trafficking, and violation of probation.

Anderson was charged with trafficking in fentanyl, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of MDMA without a prescription, and violation of probation.

All charges are allegations. The case remains under investigation.
