Birmingham, AL – A cold weather advisory remains in effect across central Alabama until 9 a.m. Wednesday, with freezing temperatures posing significant safety concerns for residents. Lows tonight will drop to the mid-teens to around 20°F, with frostbite risks if proper precautions aren’t taken.
According to the National Weather Service in Birmingham, a high of 37°F is expected today under sunny skies, but conditions will become dangerously cold overnight as clear skies allow temperatures to plummet. Residents are advised to limit outdoor exposure, dress warmly, and ensure pets and plants are protected. Frostbite and hypothermia are risks if skin is exposed for extended periods.
Looking ahead, Thursday will bring slightly warmer temperatures, with sunny skies and highs reaching the low 40s. Overnight lows will again dip to the 20s. By Friday, conditions will improve further, with highs near 49°F under mostly sunny skies.
Weekend weather is expected to be sunny with highs in the mid-40s on Saturday, but clouds will return by Sunday, bringing a 30% chance of rain and highs around 48°F. Another cold front may approach early next week, keeping temperatures below 50°F.
Drivers should exercise caution as freezing overnight conditions could lead to slick roads, particularly on bridges and overpasses. Residents are urged to take steps to prevent frozen pipes by allowing faucets to drip slightly and wrapping exposed plumbing.
