Birmingham, AL – A wet weather pattern will continue across central Alabama Tuesday, with widespread showers and thunderstorms expected to keep temperatures several degrees below typical mid-July highs.

According to the National Weather Service in Birmingham, Tuesday will feature mostly cloudy skies with widespread showers and thunderstorms across much of the state. Afternoon highs are expected to reach only the lower to middle 80s, with many communities staying cooler than recent days because of extensive cloud cover and rainfall.

Cities including Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, Montgomery, Anniston, Gadsden, Auburn, Selma, Clanton, Jasper and Hamilton are all expected to see periods of rain and thunderstorms during the day. Winds will generally remain light, around 5 to 10 mph.

Showers and thunderstorms will continue into Tuesday night, although activity is expected to become more scattered before midnight. Overnight lows will fall into the upper 60s to lower 70s across central Alabama.

The unsettled pattern persists Wednesday. Forecasters expect partly cloudy skies with scattered showers and thunderstorms, with the highest rain chances across northern portions of the state. Afternoon highs will climb slightly into the mid to upper 80s, though cloud cover and periodic rainfall should continue to prevent extreme heat.

Residents should be prepared for periods of heavy rain, lightning and brief gusty winds with stronger thunderstorms. Motorists are encouraged to slow down during heavy rainfall and never drive through flooded roadways.

Anyone with outdoor plans should continue monitoring the latest forecast, as thunderstorm timing and coverage may change throughout the day.
