Birmingham, AL – Central Alabama is under a flood watch from 7 a.m. Sunday until Monday evening, with excessive rainfall expected to cause localized flooding. The National Weather Service warns that areas already saturated by heavy rain Saturday could see additional flooding as up to 2 inches of rain are predicted across many counties.
According to the National Weather Service, rainfall amounts of 1.5 to 2 inches are possible through Monday afternoon, with the potential for higher totals in some areas. The storm system could bring repetitive rain over the same regions, leading to flash flooding risks in already saturated grounds. Streams and creeks are expected to rise out of their banks, particularly in low-lying areas.
Counties including Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, Montgomery, and Auburn are among those most at risk for flooding, as well as other areas like Walker, Jefferson, and Shelby. Local rivers, creeks, and streams may see dangerous rises, potentially affecting roadways and infrastructure.
Residents in flood-prone areas are urged to remain vigilant, avoid travel through flooded areas, and prepare for possible evacuations. Local authorities continue to monitor the situation and will issue warnings as necessary.
The flood watch remains in effect until Monday evening, and more updates may follow if conditions worsen. Stay tuned for further weather advisories.
