Mobile, Alabama – Wind chills have dropped into the teens across inland southwest Alabama, creating a brief but intense cold risk through the early morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Mobile, a Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect until 8 a.m. Monday for much of south central and southwest Alabama and northwest Florida. Inland communities from Monroeville and Evergreen to Atmore and Grove Hill are seeing wind chills between 15 and 20 degrees. Along the coast, including Mobile, Gulf Shores, Pensacola and Destin, wind chills are ranging from 20 to 25 degrees.
The coldest conditions are occurring in rural inland counties such as Choctaw, Clarke, Wilcox and Conecuh, where lighter winds combined with clear skies have allowed temperatures to fall rapidly before sunrise. Coastal areas in Baldwin and Santa Rosa counties remain cold but slightly moderated by Gulf waters.
Residents heading out before 8 a.m. should wear layered clothing, gloves and hats to reduce heat loss. Bring pets indoors and limit prolonged exposure for children and older adults.
Conditions will gradually improve after sunrise, but additional cold advisories remain possible if clear skies persist overnight into early Tuesday.
