West Palm Beach, Florida – Wind chills will dip into the upper 20s before sunrise Tuesday, bringing an unusual burst of cold air to parts of South Florida during the early morning commute.
According to the National Weather Service in Miami, a Cold Weather Advisory takes effect from 3 a.m. to 9 a.m. Tuesday for coastal and inland Palm Beach County, inland Broward and Miami-Dade counties, and coastal Collier County. Wind chills are expected to fall into the upper 20s and lower 30s, especially in inland communities away from the Atlantic and Gulf coastlines.
Cities including West Palm Beach, Boca Raton, Delray Beach, Wellington and Belle Glade will feel the chill before dawn. Inland areas such as The Acreage, Royal Palm Beach and communities near Lion Country Safari Park could experience the coldest readings. In Broward and Miami-Dade, locations west of Interstate 95, including Pembroke Pines and areas near Shark Valley and the Miccosukee Reservation, will see the sharpest drop in apparent temperatures.
Residents heading out before 9 a.m. Tuesday should wear layered clothing, hats and gloves to limit exposure. While this cold snap is brief, prolonged time outdoors could increase the risk of hypothermia.
Temperatures will rebound quickly after sunrise, but additional advisories remain possible if clear skies and light winds persist into midweek.
