Alabama Tornado Confirmed: EF-1 Twister Traveled 13 Miles Near Rosalie on May 3

Rosalie, Alabama – An EF-1 tornado with peak winds of 100 mph touched down northwest of Rosalie on Friday afternoon, carving a 13.49-mile path through Jackson and DeKalb counties before lifting near the Alabama Welcome Center on I-59.

According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, the tornado was on the ground from 3:49 to 4:09 p.m. on May 3. Survey teams confirmed the tornado’s track stretched across rural terrain and communities in northeast Alabama, with a maximum width of 80 yards. No injuries or fatalities were reported.

The tornado’s path began near Sulphur Springs and moved east, crossing state highways and rural areas before dissipating near the Georgia state line. While damage assessments are still underway, initial reports include downed trees, damaged outbuildings, and minor structural impacts to homes. The storm is the first confirmed tornado in the region this spring.

Residents in Jackson and DeKalb counties are urged to remain weather-aware as the severe weather season continues. Emergency management officials recommend reviewing shelter plans, keeping NOAA radios charged, and staying alert for future warnings.

No additional tornadoes have been confirmed from Friday’s storms, but more updates are expected as NWS teams complete their surveys across northern Alabama.
