Birmingham, Ala. – Strong storms will move across Alabama today, bringing the risk of 60 mph wind gusts and large hail from late morning through early evening. Areas like Montgomery, Tuscaloosa, and Selma could see the most severe impacts during peak commute hours.
According to the National Weather Service in Birmingham, storms will begin around 11 a.m. in west-central Alabama and continue eastward through 7 p.m. A Level 2 risk zone covers much of central and southern Alabama, while a marginal risk remains for cities like Hamilton and Gadsden.
Gusty winds may down trees and power lines, especially in areas along I-65 and I-20. Hail up to the size of quarters could damage vehicles and crops. The most active storm window includes Birmingham between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m., then shifting southeast toward Troy and Eufaula by early evening.
Residents are urged to stay weather-aware, have multiple ways to receive alerts, and remain near a sturdy shelter. Outdoor plans should be reconsidered, particularly in counties like Dallas, Autauga, and Pike.
Severe thunderstorm warnings may be issued with little notice. Storm threats will gradually taper off after 7 p.m., but additional updates may follow.
