Mobile, AL – An extreme cold warning remains in effect across southern Alabama, the Florida Panhandle, and southeastern Mississippi until 10 a.m. Wednesday. Wind chills as low as 4°F are expected, posing significant risks for frostbite and hypothermia.

The National Weather Service (NWS) reports that areas affected include Mobile, Baldwin County, Pensacola, Gulf Shores, and Crestview. Prolonged freezing temperatures may also lead to ruptured water pipes.

Residents are urged to dress in warm layers, including hats, gloves, and face masks, when outdoors. Outdoor pets and livestock should be provided with adequate shelter, food, and unfrozen water. Preventative measures, such as wrapping or draining exposed pipes, are recommended to avoid freezing damage.

With conditions expected to remain below freezing through the warning period, local officials advise limiting outdoor activities, checking on vulnerable neighbors, and ensuring portable heaters are used safely indoors.

While coastal regions rarely experience such extreme cold, temperatures will begin to moderate after Wednesday morning. Stay tuned for updates from local authorities and the National Weather Service.
