Green Bay, WI – An extreme cold warning remains in effect for much of northeast and central Wisconsin until noon Tuesday, followed by a cold weather advisory lasting until midnight. Wind chills as low as 45 degrees below zero are expected this morning, with values dropping to 20 to 35 below later in the day.
The National Weather Service (NWS) reports that frostbite can occur on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes in these conditions. Areas impacted include Green Bay, Door County, Wausau, and Antigo.
Residents are advised to dress in layers, including hats, gloves, and face masks, if going outside. To protect water systems, ensure outdoor pipes are wrapped, drained, or left dripping slowly to prevent freezing.
Temperatures are expected to remain bitterly cold throughout the day, with the most extreme wind chills occurring in the morning hours. Pets and livestock should be provided adequate shelter, food, and unfrozen water during this frigid weather.
Travelers should prepare for icy roads and potential delays. Local officials recommend minimizing outdoor activities and checking on vulnerable neighbors and family members. Conditions are expected to improve by early Wednesday morning. Stay tuned for updates.
