Chicago, IL – Strong onshore winds are set to create hazardous conditions along Lake Michigan’s shores, with waves expected to reach heights of 5-9 feet. The National Weather Service (NWS) Chicago has issued a warning for dangerous swimming conditions starting tomorrow and lasting through Wednesday.

According to NWS Chicago, life-threatening waves and currents are anticipated to impact Illinois and northwest Indiana beaches. Lake Michigan’s beaches in Illinois will face high waves from 9 PM tonight until 1 PM Wednesday. Chicago beaches will experience these conditions from 10 AM Tuesday until 1 PM Wednesday, while Indiana beaches will be affected from 1 PM Tuesday until 1 PM Wednesday.

Beachgoers are advised to stay out of the water during this period. The NWS urges the public to heed posted signs and closures, avoid piers, breakwalls, and lakeshore trails. Conditions are expected to improve by Wednesday afternoon.
