Aurora, IL – A 72-year-old Aurora woman was killed after being struck by a vehicle near the intersection of East New York Street and West Park Place. The crash occurred on October 3, 2024, at around 5:46 p.m. as the woman, identified as Maria Herrera, crossed the street.
Aurora Police officers and Fire personnel responded immediately to the scene. Herrera was transported to Ascension Mercy Hospital and later airlifted to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital, where she died the following day. The crash involved a gray 2016 Chevrolet Silverado that reportedly struck the pedestrian while turning.
According to Aurora Police, Herrera was looking at her phone when the truck, attempting to stop, collided with her. The driver was turning southbound from East New York Street.
Police continue to investigate the incident, urging anyone with information to contact the Aurora Police Department’s Traffic Division.
