Champaign, IL – A 21-year-old woman died Sunday night following a shooting on the 2400 block of W. Springfield Avenue. Police were dispatched at 7:50 p.m. after reports of gunfire.
Officers arrived to find the woman with multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency medical care was provided on-site by police and the Champaign Fire Department before she was transported to a hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
According to Champaign Police, the victim and a man entered a business when an unknown suspect opened fire. The man was unharmed. The suspect fled the area on foot. The motive behind the shooting remains unclear.
Authorities are reviewing surveillance footage and seeking witnesses. Residents or businesses with exterior cameras in the area are encouraged to contact the police.
