Grand Junction, CO — Severe thunderstorms are forecasted to hit the Grand Junction area today, bringing the risk of hail up to one inch in diameter. Residents should prepare for damaging winds exceeding 58 mph and localized flooding as the storms intensify throughout the afternoon, primarily affecting western Colorado.

According to the National Weather Service, these storms could bring significant hail that may damage vehicles, roofs, and crops. Locals are advised to move cars to sheltered areas and secure outdoor items. Flash flooding is also possible in low-lying areas, making some roads hazardous for travel.

The stormy conditions will persist through Tuesday before clearing by late evening. With cooler, drier air moving in afterward, skies will clear in time for the supermoon and partial lunar eclipse Tuesday night. The eclipse will begin at 8:41 p.m., with the peak visible at 10:44 p.m., when 8% of the moon will be covered.
