Waldorf, MD – A 13-year-old student is facing a juvenile charge after a knife was discovered at a Charles County middle school on Wednesday, raising safety concerns for families across the Waldorf area.

According to the Charles County Sheriff’s Office, school administrators at Somers Middle School received a report on Wednesday, April 23, that a student may have been in possession of a weapon. An administrative search was conducted, and a knife was located on the student’s person.

Authorities said the student was charged on a juvenile offense report for possession of a weapon on school property, in accordance with Maryland law. Officials did not release the student’s identity due to age.

No injuries were reported, and officials have not indicated that any threats were made in connection with the incident. School leaders also initiated disciplinary action under the Charles County Public Schools Code of Student Conduct.

The incident remains under review by both school officials and law enforcement. Families in Charles County, including those in Waldorf and surrounding communities, were not advised of any ongoing threat following the discovery.

School safety protocols, including reporting concerns and conducting searches when warranted, were followed during the response, authorities said.

Parents are encouraged to speak with students about school safety policies and the importance of reporting potential threats to staff.
