Scott County, IA – Authorities are investigating a crash involving a school bus and pickup truck Monday afternoon in rural Scott County that sent both drivers to the hospital.

According to the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, the Scott Emergency Communications Center received reports of the collision around 3:44 p.m. Monday, May 18. Deputies responded to the intersection of 270th Street and 60th Avenue after a North Scott School District bus collided with a pickup truck.

Investigators said the school bus was carrying the driver and two students and was traveling eastbound on 270th Street when it allegedly failed to yield after entering the intersection. Authorities reported the bus was then struck by a northbound 2006 GMC Sierra pickup truck traveling on 60th Avenue.

Following the impact, both vehicles came to rest in the northeast ditch of the intersection, according to deputies.

The drivers of both the school bus and pickup truck were transported by Medic EMS to MercyOne Genesis Hospital for treatment. Officials said the two students on the bus were treated at the scene and later released.

The sheriff’s office said the investigation remains ongoing and potential charges are pending. Names of those involved have not yet been released pending completion of the investigation.
