Wayne County, Indiana – A pedestrian was injured Tuesday afternoon after being struck in a two-vehicle crash along U.S. 40 near Centerville, prompting an emergency response and ongoing investigation.

According to the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened around 2:56 p.m. Tuesday on U.S. 40 near Hildebrand Road. Deputies say multiple 911 calls reported a collision involving a pedestrian and two westbound vehicles.

Investigators said the pedestrian, identified as Isaiah Marquis Thomas, 28, of Philadelphia, was walking westbound as part of a fundraising effort for underprivileged children. Authorities say he was traveling on foot with a support vehicle—a 2017 Mazda CX-5 driven by a Richmond woman—following behind him.

Preliminary findings indicate a second westbound vehicle, a 2000 Buick LeSabre driven by an 82-year-old Connersville man, allegedly struck the rear of the Mazda, pushing it into Thomas.

Thomas, the Mazda driver, and a juvenile passenger in the Buick were all transported to Reid Health for evaluation and treatment. Officials say injuries are believed to be non-life-threatening, though the full extent remains under review.

Emergency crews from Centerville Fire/Rescue and Reid EMS responded to the scene alongside sheriff’s deputies. The crash temporarily impacted traffic along the busy highway corridor.

Authorities say the investigation is ongoing as they continue to review the circumstances surrounding the collision.
