Indiana: Fatal Shooting Near Fairgrounds Park Follows Chase, Gunfire Exchange

Valparaiso, IN – Indiana State Police are currently investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting that transpired near Fairgrounds Park in Valparaiso. 

According to Indiana State Police the incident began after officers responded to a call about a suspicious person with a handgun near Butterfield Pavilion. Upon spotting a male matching the suspect’s description, the situation quickly escalated into a chase towards Calumet Avenue.

During the pursuit, an exchange of gunfire occurred, resulting in the suspect being fatally injured. He was transported to Northwest Health Hospital, where he was declared deceased. The suspect’s identity is pending release by the Porter County Coroner.

The incident is now under investigation with the Indiana State Police Criminal Investigations Division Lowell Post, with further details about the officers involved to be disclosed later.
