Crown Point, IN – Franciscan Health Crown Point recently celebrated a momentous occasion with the births of the last and first babies at their old and new hospital facilities, respectively.
According to the hospital, Joey Lee Krygsheld was the final baby born at the old Family Birth Center on South Main Street. He arrived at 4:41 a.m. on Sunday, January 28, to parents Caitlin and Joel Krygsheld of Cedar Lake, weighing in at 8 pounds 5 ounces. Later that day, following the hospital’s relocation, Oaklynn Elizabeth Williamson became the first newborn at the new hospital’s Family Birth Center on Saint Francis Drive. Born to Kyleigh Laska and Jesse Williamson of Hebron at 5:02 p.m., she weighed 7 pounds 12 ounces.
The move from the 50-year-old Main Street facility to the new location at the southeast corner of U.S. 231 and Interstate 65 marks a significant transition for the hospital. Inpatient services began transferring to the new site from 8 a.m. on the same day. The former hospital now operates as the Franciscan Health Main St. Outpatient Center, continuing to offer various outpatient services. The new hospital is easily accessible from the U.S. 231 roundabout near I-65.
