Indiana: One Dead in Head-On Crash with Tractor

Shelby County, IN – A fatal head-on collision occurred on South State Road 9 in Shelby County, Indiana, involving a tractor-trailer and a Jeep Liberty. 

According to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department, the accident happened at approximately 2:55 pm. The collision involved a tractor-trailer, driven by 65-year-old Gary Jaquess from Columbus, Indiana, and a Jeep Liberty, steered by 23-year-old Johnathan May from Shelbyville, Indiana. 

Initial scene investigation and witness accounts suggest that the Jeep, heading southbound, veered across the center line, resulting in the head-on crash with the northbound tractor-trailer. Tragically, Johnathan May was declared dead at the scene due to injuries sustained in the accident.

The other individuals involved, Gary Jaquess and 22-year-old Alexis Eversole from Shelbyville, a passenger in the Jeep, were transported to IU Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment. Their conditions are currently not disclosed. The Shelby County Fatal Crash Team has taken charge of the ongoing investigation to determine the precise cause of this tragic accident.
