Wheatfield, IN – A tense situation in Jasper County escalated into a crisis involving a young child, leading to serious felony charges against an Indiana man.

According to Jasper County Sheriff’s Department reports, the incident occurred on December 21, 2023, at a residence near Wheatfield. The central figure in this chaos, 22-year-old Jacob J. Thompson, was reportedly intoxicated and allegedly engaged in violent behavior, causing alarm and endangering those present, including a child. Full details behind the incident have not been released.

Thompson’s alleged actions escalated to making threats against both the child and a responding sheriff’s deputy. Despite law enforcement’s attempts to de-escalate the situation, Thompson’s aggression led to a reported physical altercation.

He was arrested and now faces multiple serious charges, including two counts each of Intimidation and Attempted Battery Against a Public Safety Official (Level 6 Felonies), along with Resisting Law Enforcement and Battery Resulting in Bodily Injury (both Class A Misdemeanors).

The Jasper County Sheriff’s Department has stressed that while charges have been filed, every individual, including Thompson, is considered innocent until proven guilty in court.
