Mokena, IL – A group of eight ducklings found themselves in a bit of a jam on Monday evening, but thanks to the quick action of the Mokena Police Department, their story has a happy ending.Â
Around 7 p.m. on May 6, 2024, police were called to a Meijer parking lot where a distressed mother duck, now affectionately known as Momma Duck, was making quite a scene.Upon arrival, officers discovered the source of Momma Duck’s distress: her ducklings had tumbled into a sewer grate. With help from kind-hearted bystanders, the officers removed the grate and carefully retrieved each duckling.
Once rescued, the ducklings wasted no time waddling back to their mother on the mulched median, and the family quickly departed for safer grounds.
Celebrating the rescue, the Mokena Police Department shared their pride on Facebook, stating, “Some superheroes wear capes; ours proudly wear the badge of the Mokena Police Department.” This delightful rescue not only saved the day for the ducklings but also brought a smile to the faces of the Mokena community.
