Will County, IL – Elevator Accident Claims Life of Young Man at Woodwork Shop Amid Cabinet Movement

Joliet, IL – A tragic elevator accident at L Surges Custom Woodwork in Joliet resulted in the death of 23-year-old Agustin Martinez-Gallegos. 

The incident occurred on April 9, 2024, when Joliet Police responded to the scene at 225 Maple Street at around 3:40 p.m. Reports indicated that Martinez-Gallegos fell into the elevator shaft during an attempt to maneuver cabinets within the lift, which began ascending unexpectedly while the doors remained open.

Found unresponsive by responding officers, Martinez-Gallegos was subsequently pronounced dead at Silver Cross Hospital. Initial findings suggest the death was accidental, with no foul play evident. Investigations by the Joliet Police and OSHA are ongoing, with conclusions pending autopsy and toxicological reports.
