CHICAGO, IL – People from across the globe have rallied behind the family of six-year-old Wadea Al-Fayoume, raising close to $300,000 following a horrific hate crime this weekend. Wadea was fatally attacked in his home, with his mother, Hanaan Shahin, sustaining severe injuries.
A fundraiser, “Support the Family of Our Departed Angel, Wadea Al-Fayoume,” orchestrated by Ahmed Rehab, has garnered the support of over 4,000 donors, reaching 96% of its goal within a short span. The funds will aid in Wadea’s Janazah, cover Hanaan’s medical expenses, ensure she has a safe home to return to, and establish a charity in Wadea’s memory.
While the tragedy of Wadea’s loss is immeasurable, the community’s response exemplifies hope and resilience in the face of adversity. Those inspired to contribute can join in, furthering the message of unity against hate.
