McHenry County, IL – Sheriff’s Office Alerts Public to Ongoing Telephone Scam

McHenry County residents are being alerted to a persistent telephone scam involving callers posing as warrant officers from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office. Scammers are using sophisticated technology to display the Sheriff’s Office phone number on caller IDs and demanding payment for alleged warrants.

According to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, a resident was targeted on May 15, 2024, by a scammer who exploited personal details to coerce payment. Authorities emphasize that law enforcement agencies will never request payment over the phone and advise residents to hang up immediately and contact the police.
