ROUND LAKE, IL — A crash early Monday in unincorporated Round Lake, involving a Wisconsin woman resulting in critical injuries, including two middle-school-aged children.

According to Lake County Sheriff’s Department reports the crash took place around 6:30 a.m. near the intersection of Fairfield and Nippersink Roads. Responding to the emergency, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies found a northbound Chevrolet Equinox, driven by a woman from Round Lake Beach, that had strayed into the southbound lane, colliding head-on with an Acura MDX driven by a 39-year-old woman from Wauconda, Wisconsin.

The impact of the crash caused significant injuries to both drivers and the two children in the Acura, who were rushed to area hospitals. The children’s injuries, while serious, are not life-threatening.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Department is currently conducting a thorough investigation into the incident. Investigators at the scene uncovered an open container of alcohol in the Chevrolet, adding a potential factor of impaired driving to the investigation. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team is working to piece together the events leading to this unfortunate accident.
