Kane County, IL – A single-vehicle crash in Sugar Grove Township Sunday night resulted in the death of a local resident.

According to the Kane County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred around 9:45 pm on the 41W200 block of Jericho Road. The victim, identified as 76-year-old Lawrence Hagemeyer of Montgomery, Illinois, was found in a severely damaged silver Jeep Grand Cherokee. The preliminary investigation suggests the vehicle, traveling eastbound, veered off the road and struck a tree, potentially rolling over before coming to rest in a ditch. Despite being secured with a seatbelt and airbag deployment, Hagemeyer sustained critical head injuries. He was rushed to Ascension Mercy Hospital but sadly succumbed to his injuries.

At this stage, the cause of the crash remains unclear, with speed and possible impairment under investigation. The Kane County Investigations Division is actively working on the case, supported by the county’s Drone Team and the Office of Emergency Management, alongside the Sugar Grove Fire Department.
