Homewood, IL – Early Morning Traffic Stop Leads to Weapon Charge

Homewood, IL – Early Wednesday morning, Homewood Police conducted a routine traffic stop that led to an unexpected discovery. 

According to the Homewood Police Department, at around 3:00 am, officers stopped a vehicle for having only one functioning headlight on the 1900 block of 183rd Street. During the stop, officers reportedly noticed drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle. 

The driver, later identified as 23-year-old Matthew Hommer from Homewood, informed the police of a loaded Glock 23 .40 caliber handgun under his front seat when asked if there were any other items they should be aware of. 

Although Hommer possessed a valid Firearms Owner’s Identification (FOID) card, he did not have a Concealed Carry License, which is required for carrying a loaded handgun. 

Hommer was charged with a misdemeanor for Unlawful Use of a Weapon.
