Morris, IL – A potentially alarming incident reported at a Morris Walmart has prompted local police to investigate. On April 16, at approximately 1:30 PM, a family was loading groceries into their car in the Walmart parking lot when they alleged an attempt to grab their child seated in a shopping cart. According to the report made at 1:58 PM, a man in a tan minivan attempted the grab while passing by the family.

The Morris Police Department, with assistance from Walmart Loss Prevention, reviewed surveillance footage to ascertain the veracity of the claim. The video displayed the family by their vehicle, and around the stated time, a tan Honda minivan is seen passing by. However, contrary to the initial report, the footage shows the driver side of the van facing the child, the window closed, and no one visibly reaching out. The van did not slow down, stop, or show any unusual activity.

The vehicle continued west on Route 6 and left the camera’s view, with the angle making it impossible to capture the license plate. The Morris Police encourage anyone with further information to contact them at 815-942-2131, extension 8. This incident has reignited community concerns about child safety in public spaces, reminding all of the critical need for vigilance.
