Naperville, IL – In a surprising development stemming from a March 2022 theft report, Robert J. Sladek, a 45-year-old Downers Grove resident, has been arrested and charged with multiple felonies, including insurance fraud, after Naperville Police uncovered an alleged fraud scheme involving over $10,000 in tool theft claims. Sladek initially reported hand tools stolen from his vehicle, which led to a comprehensive investigation by local authorities.
According to Naperville police officers discovered during a thorough investigation, Sladek had filed for and received insurance payouts in 2021 and 2022 for tools he claimed were stolen, with each claim exceeding $10,000. Further probing revealed that Sladek allegedly never owned the tools he reported as stolen. This led to charges against Sladek for two counts of felony theft, two counts of insurance fraud, one count of forgery for submitting false documentation, and one count of filing a false police report. Sladek and since turned himself into police on the alleged charges.
Police Chief Jason Arres commended the investigative team for their dedication to following through on the case, ensuring a thorough examination of the facts. The Naperville Police Department has issued a reminder that charges are simply accusations, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a legal proceeding.
