Naperville, IL – An overnight fire at a Naperville hotel caused an estimated $8 million in damage, leaving the building uninhabitable, though no injuries were reported.
According to the Naperville Fire Department, the fire was reported at 11:30 p.m. Thursday, July 2, after the Naperville Emergency Communications Center received a 911 call about smoke inside a structure in the 1800 block of West Diehl Road.
Firefighters arrived to find flames on the roof of the hotel. The initial response was quickly upgraded from a Full Still assignment to a General Alarm, then later to a Box Alarm and a Second Alarm as crews worked to contain the growing fire.
Officials said all occupants had safely evacuated the building before firefighters launched an aggressive interior attack. The bulk of the fire was extinguished by 1 a.m. Friday, July 3, with crews remaining on scene to overhaul the structure and extinguish hot spots.
The Naperville Fire Department was assisted by multiple neighboring agencies, including the Naperville Police Department, Naperville Electric Department, Nicor, and fire departments from Bolingbrook, Wheaton, Warrenville, West Chicago, Aurora, Lisle-Woodridge, Woodridge, and other surrounding communities.
Damage to the hotel and its contents is estimated at approximately $8 million, according to fire officials. The building has been deemed uninhabitable because of the extensive damage.
