KANKAKEE – The Kankakee County Health Department reported 52 new cases of COVID-19 in the largest single day report in the County since late May. There have now been 2,123 to date since the pandemic began in the County.

As of Monday, 597 active cases were reported in the County, with eight currently hospitalized due to the virus. No new deaths were reported on Monday and remain at 67.

On Friday, the 60901 zip code eclipsed 1,000 cases and now stand at 1021 since the pandemic began. New numbers come as nearly half of all school districts in Kankakee County are now reporting cases among their communities.

Among Monday’s new COVID-19 cases included 8 school-aged residents teenage age and younger.

“Remember that even when participating in events, it is important to social distance and wear a face covering.” The Kankakee County Health Department said in a statement on Monday.

Kankakee County’s newly formed Region 7, which includes Will County, will likely see new mitigations take place Tuesday from the State of Illinois due to a lack of control of numbers regarding the novel coronavirus.
