Kankakee County Health Department officials announced Thursdady afternoon 45 new cases of novel coronavirus in the past 24-hours, bringing active county totals to 266.
It’s a 16% jump in active cases a single day in the county.   It’s the most single day cases in nearly a month when 55 cases were announced on May 26th.
Among new cases announced today included ten people in their 70s. Ages stretched from children to people in their 80s.
The jump in new cases may be tied to exposure at a local food pantry after multiple staffers tested positive for COVID-19. The official announcement was made through the Kankakee County Community Services Inc Facebook page by Executive Director Vince Clark earlier this morning.
KCCSI’s facilities are closed today for cleaning and will reopen next Monday.
Since the pandemic began, 1,300 people have been confirmed positive for COVID-19 in Kankakee County.
