KANKAKEE, IL – A home in the 300 block of South Evergreen Avenue has been shut down by the city of Kankakee this week in a bid to prioritize public safety. After a string of gunfire incidents earlier this month, the court granted the city’s request to board up the property for 45 days.

While no casualties have been reported, neighboring homes and vehicles have suffered damage. Within a 72-hour window, three separate reports of shots fired involved a group of juvenile suspects, leading to the swift action.

Kankakee 2nd Ward Alderman Dave Baron expressed gratitude for the city’s immediate response, providing relief to affected neighborhoods.

Residents facing the distress of frequent gunfire hope by securing and boarding up the house, the city will to restore peace and security to the community.
