KANKAKEE – Total COVID cases since the pandemic began in March have now surpassed 7,000 in Kankakee. Over half of all cases since the pandemic began remain active.
Wednesday morning, Kankakee ranked #4 in the nation for ‘Where the Outbreak is Now’ according to the New York Times. Kankakee is the top-ranking town in Illinois for the virus behind only two North Dakota cities and El Paso, Texas.
No new deaths were announced Wednesday and remain at 91 while hospitalizations fell by three in the past 24 hours. There are now 94 area residents hospitalized for COVID in Kankakee.
According to a recent COVID-19 event risk assessment planning kit released by Georgia Institute of Technology, a resident’s risk of contracting COVID-19 at an event with 50 guests or more is now 99%. The same chart reports the risk of guests 15 or more pose a 77% risk at contracting the virus, with an event of 10 or less posing a 63% risk.
Region 7’s positivity remained the highest of all Regions in Illinois today, now 20.7%.
