Last night, Kankakee High School defeated Oak Forest last night 72-51 and will advance to the Sweet Sixteen of the 2020 IHSA Boys Basketball State Series. However, finding a ticket to Friday’s matchup against Thornridge will be hard.
The Illinois High School Association (IHSA) announced this morning it will significantly limit attendance to the games to reduce the potential spread of COVID-19.
The decision came after IHSA consulted with the Illinois Department of Public Health.
“This was a difficult decision shaped by thoughtful deliberation set against a truly unprecedented backdrop,” said IHSA Executive Director Craig Anderson. “IHSA Basketball is America’s Original March Madness, and we will recognize that this tournament is a once-in-a-lifetime experience for the competing teams, communities, and fans. Ultimately though we have to put the health and safety of the students, along with the public, ahead of the spectacle of event.”
Full refunds will be available for any ticket already purchased for the remaining contests.
The IHSA is expected to go into further details later today on its website.
