Orland Park – A Calumet City man is under arrest following a foot chase through Orland Park Mall that saw the man jump off the upper level of the mall in an effort to evade police.
According to Orland Park Police, it happened last Friday after local officers discovered a stolen Dodge Charger in the parking lot of the Mall. A short time later officers identified Devonta Harris, 26 of Calumet City as a suspect in the theft.
Harris entered the vehicle and tried to leave the scene before realizing it had already been disabled, prompting Harris to enter the Mall on foot. During his attempt to evade police, Harris jumped from the upper floor of the mall onto the lower level.
Harris was shortly afterwards taken into custody and treated for his injured from the jump by Orland Fire Protection District. He was later transported to Silver Cross Hospital.
An inspection of the stolen vehicle uncovered a loaded handgun and extra magazines.
It was later discovered Harris was an active parole wanted by Cook County Sheriff’s Department for Escape as his electronic monitoring bracelet had been illegally removed. Harris also has an original arrest warrant from the Tinley Park Police Department for Fleeing and Eluding.
Harris was charged with three felonies and three misdemeanors in the incident, including Possession of Stolen Motor Vehicle, Aggravated Unlawful Use Of Weapon By A Felon, and Aggravated Unlawful Use Of Weapon – Prior Conviction.
