WHEATON, IL – A Hinsdale police officer was hit by a vehicle during a foot chase of a fleeing suspect, Juwan Levingston, 40, of Broadview, IL.

According to reports the chase began on October 2, around 7:06 p.m., after Levingston evaded a routine traffic stop initiated by Willowbrook police for minor vehicle infractions. As he sped away, he allegedly tossed a loaded Glock 44 .22 caliber handgun from his vehicle.

On Roosevelt Road, cornered by police, Levingston reportedly abandoned his car and took off on foot. In the heat of the chase, a Hinsdale officer pursuing him was struck by a passing vehicle. Despite injuries, the officer managed to arrest Levingston shortly after.

DuPage State’s Attorney Robert Berlin praised the officer’s valor and resilience, emphasizing the dangers law enforcement face daily. Willowbrook Chief of Police Lauren Kaspar joined in lauding the combined efforts of the Willowbrook and Hinsdale police departments in ensuring public safety.

Levingston now faces several felony charges with his arraignment scheduled for October 25, 2023. The public is reminded that charges are not a declaration of guilt, and every defendant is entitled to due process.
