CHICAGO – CSL Plasma centers announced this week it will give out free flu shot vouchers for the third year in a row to plasma donors beginning this month.
According to the company, vaccine vouchers will be given to plasma donors at all 300 + locations across the U.S. that can be redeemed at any Walgreens pharmacy location.
The flu shot voucher will be provided through the CSL Plasma donor app, found on the app stores, in addition to donor payments regularly made to donors.
“We are invested in the health and safety of our communities, which is why we want to offer this service to CSL Plasma donors. Plasma donors help improve and save the lives of those affected by rare and serious diseases,” said Walter Charles, Senior Vice President and General Manager, CSL Plasma. “Plasma donations are essential, and plasma collected at CSL Plasma centers is used to help produce life-saving therapies for people in more than 100 countries.”
“Yearly vaccination is vital as influenza can be hard to predict, viruses that cause flu constantly change, and flu vaccines can reduce the burden of flu illnesses, hospitalizations and deaths,” said Dr. Jennifer Hanes, Division Medical Director, U.S. Plasma Operations, CSL Plasma. “Research shows the flu vaccine has helped reduce related illnesses and the risk of serious complications.”
The FDA limits donors to donating no more than two times a week. No waiting period is necessary after receiving the flu vaccine.
Plasma collected from donations is used by CSL Behring to produce therapies used around the world to treat a variety of diseases, including bleeding disorders, primary immune deficiencies, neurological disorders and more.
The annual flu shot vaccine program ends December 17th.
